Police Station & Pioneer Park

We went on a field trip to the Police Station. We got to sit in a patrol car and push all the fun buttons. Here BW is working as a member of the SWAT team.
This is MM in gear that is worn to practice in.
Then we went to Pioneer Park. It was sunny and warm and we had a ton of fun. This is PH and MS sharing the swing.
Then the yearly event. We always burry someone in the sand.

And we also take the traditional picture in the tire. One of my favorites.

Farm to Market

Today our food service put on a Farm to Market for us. They talked about eating healthy. We got to see all kinds of fruit and vegetables. The High School FFA members brought a lamb and pig for us to look at and feel.

We also got to plant a bean seed.
Here we are returning to our classroom with all kinds of fun things to remind us about making good food choices.

Animal Reports

This is ER demonstrating what it will be like when we start sharing our animal slide shows. This is her African animal slide show from last year.
This year we made just a short slide show on any kind of animal we wanted to. We learned how to find information from different sources.

Today we each received a book from R.I.F. We couldn't wait to read them. Here you can see us walking down the hall on our way back to the classroom while reading.

Saying Goodbye

Today was our last day with the chicks. They are ready to live outside and get some real food (They love bugs). It was a little sad to say good bye, but we know that GB will give us good updates.

Mrs. Whitten's class is just starting their adventure.

They are hatching baby quail. They had 5 babies born today and we got to see them. They are just a tiny bit larger than a marble.
We are reading the book called, My Father's Dragon. Today we read the chapter about Elmer making a bridge using the crocodiles. He put a lollipop on the bank and the first crocodile sucked on it while Elmer put another lollipop on his tail for another crocodile. Pretty soon he had a bridge that got him to the island that had the baby dragon. He is trying to rescue the dragon from the wild animals.

Teamwork Awards

Today when we took the chicks outside, we let them jump out of the cage by themselves. It was fun because they would jump out and then jump right back in. Another class is now hatching quail. Their first one hatched at the end of school today. It is just a little larger than a marble. Pretty amazing.
Today we honored some of our classmates for showing good teamworking skills at the award assembly.

Chicks Explore!

Today we took the chicks outside to see what they thought of the grass. This is a picture towards the end of the experiment and they thought JS's hands were warmer to stand on than the grass.

Here is a brave chick all on his own.

On our way back to the warmer classroom.

Chicks Are Here

Here we are watching a couple of the chicks hatch. We came in this morning and found that two had hatched. Then at 9:40 we got to watch as one hatched. Then we went out to recess and one hatched while we were out. By the end of the day, we had 7 babies and 3 more cracking. We can't wait for tomorrow.
At the end of the day we moved the fluffy chicks to the cage, but first we held them. Here is ER passing the baby on to EB.
Here are some students recording information as the chicks hatch.
If you look close you can see two chicks in this picture. A red one on the left and a dark one on the right.
The girls just watched a chick come out of the shell and they are comparing it to their book.

They're Hatching!

I came in today to move the eggs out of the turner and look what I saw. One egg has started to crack open. It is also peeping!
This is the same shot with the camera flash on.

Friday, May 05, 2006

On Sunday I will move the eggs out of the turner and hopefully if all goes as planned, we will have chicks on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Here is a group of boys that chose to play checkers during quiet time. BP is teaching SA how to play hangman.
This is how our art turned out. It gives you a very happy feeling when you walk by it. Monday we will add a little grass to the bottom of it.
