Getting Ready for March
Today we got ready for March by painting pictures of the Cat in the Hat that will make our March calendar.




We learned more about the Little Blue penguin. We found out they are only 16- 17inches tall. This is CC using his measuring tape to see how tall the Little Blue penguin is to him.
During math today, we had a small group of students using the base 10 blocks.
Next week is classified week and we are creating a poster for them. We decided to go with the penguin theme, since that is what we are learning about. More on this project later.

Finding Antarctica

Today SA located Antarctica for us on the world map. That is where a lot of penguins live.

Here is GB playing a math game. The game is taking a trip to Antarctica and who ever spends the least amount of money wins.

This is PH and CA playing the same game.


This is ER playing “Spell It”. We break into three teams and take turns writing our words on the white board. Each correctly spelled word earns a point for our team.

How Big Is A Penguin?

Today we found out how much we weigh. As we learn more about different kinds of penguins, we will know how big or little each penguin is compared to our height and weight.
This afternoon we went to a new website while in the computer lab. We practiced our addition and subtraction skills. Try it out at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/numbertime/games/index.shtml
Our guidance counselor came in and taught us a lesson about thinking of others. We learned that others might see things differently than us and that is okay. This is CC standing in some big shoes trying to understand what someone else might be feeling.
We finished the day by practicing for our Patriotic Assembly. Our music teacher’s husband is back from serving in Iraq and he put together a slide show that we sang to. Our assembly is on Friday, February 24th.

Technology Day

This is GGB getting help editing her newspaper article. Our next newspaper will come out this Friday.
BW created this penguin on the computer using Microsoft Paint. Then he helped another first grade class learn how to do it.

President's Day

The Lion Club came today and brought us American flags.

This is BB, TL, and BP posing with their new flags.

Our Principal came in today for S.T.A.R . She brought a story that we got to help her read. She also gave us charms and certificates for reading last month. This months reading goal is to read 4 hours. Please remember to fill out your S.T.A.R sheet and return it at the end of the month.

Ending A Busy Week


At the end of the day, we spent a few minutes playing games.

This is JB putting our pop can tabs into the office collection. We are collecting tabs for people who need kidney dialysis.

This afternoon we went to the computer lab. We edited our newspaper article and then we went to http://www.kidzone.ws/animals/penguins/puzzle4.htm and put penguin puzzles together.

R.I.F. Day at McKay

Today was R.I.F. day. That is when we get to pick out a free book.

Today we worked in our math packets. This is PH working on hers.


JS is seeing what it is like to be a penguin. He is trying to keep the egg (ball) on his feet and his fold of skin(coat) over the egg while walking and not letting it touch the ice. "It's hard being a penguin."

Playing At Recess

This morning during recess DA played on the monkey bars...
and so did MS.
Anyone want to play? This is BW getting ready for an early game of football.

The game got under way. The boys said that CC got a diving interception. Then EB almost got one, but the ball went between his legs.

Valentine Fund Raiser


The 5th graders sold Valentine balloons and flowers as a fund raiser. This is what it looked like when they came to our room with their special deliveries. They are raising money for a trip to Portland.

These are some very happy girls enjoying their Valentine cards.

We made hats like Abe Lincoln use to wear for our Valentine holders. Abe kept all his important letters in his hat too.


BP is painting blue paper for our Patriotic Banner. Our assembly is on February 24th.


Here we are painting red paper with our hands. We are going to make a flag for the Patriotic Assembly.

EB is working on his 100th day of school photo album page.


This is ER typing on an Alphasmart. She is writing about what she did on the 100th day of school. When she is done, she will download it and put it on her photo album page.
