Halloween Party

Getting in our costumes today was fun. We walked down to McKay Estates and paraded through their lobby, then went through each classroom back at school.

Then we played a few games. This was the pumpkin relay.
Then we made slime.
Here is the recipe if you want:
Brew 1: 1 1/2 cups warm water
2 cups Elmer's glue
several drops of green food coloring
Brew 2: (large bowl) 8 teaspoons Borax
2 2/3 cups warm water
Pour Brew 1 into Brew 2. Lift glob out of liquid after one minute.
We also made monster hands for a treat.
Then we played candycorn catch. Here is MC tossing a candy pumpkin into the pumpkin basket that SA is holding. You have to be brave to take on the basket job in this game.

Wacky Hair Day

We performed two of our plays today. They were very cute. I video taped each play, so if you didn't get to come, we will send the tape home for you to borrow. This is JS as the mummy.
EM as the vampire.

Today we came to school with wacky hair. Recognize any of these boys? Me either. We made Hawaiian Leis after reading a story about them this morning.
I purchases a new reading program online that we will be using in my reading groups. It allows each student to listen, read, and take a test online. They can access it at home by going to www.raz-kids.com and then put in their password. Students that go to another classroom for reading will soon be able to access it too.

Monkey Moments

Give me enough time and I WILL get the blog updated. Hope you enjoy all of last weeks events.
Thank you everyone for taking time out of your busy schedules to meet with me at conferences.
Reminder*****Read A Thon is coming to a close. Please send any money collected to school by Wednesday.
Today we celebrated BC's birthday today. He is the one in the middle. Happy Birthday! We have received enough compliments to make our monkey chain hit the floor. Mrs. LS was nice enough to make us treats to celebrate. Thank you LS. This is MC holding part of our chain. (Each time an adult comments on our class behavior, we add a monkey to our chain. Once it reaches the floor, we celebrate).
This is LS with a few helpers to get the celebration started.
Today we made the background for our plays. This group is working on the witch's house.
And this group is working on the sky background.

Today we receieved our document camera. A document camera is a digital device which allows 2-3 dimensional objects to be projected on a screen. Here JC is explaining to us how she is categorizing the candy corn.

Pumpkin Patch

Monday we went to the pumpkin patch at Belinger Farms in Hermiston. The rain stopped just in time and we had a beautiful day. We took a hay ride out to the middle of the pumpkin patch and each of us found the perfect pumpkin. This is JS with his pumpkin and BR, CH, and CF on the hay wagon heading back to the bus. MC with her pumpkin.
BR as he just selected his pumpkin. Now he is taking it to the hay wagon.
SA found a good one too. Look at all the pumpkins still in the field.
RL, BP, and TL are enjoying the hay ride.
CA decided this was the pumpkin for him.

Building A Scarecrow

We put our scarecrows together this afternoon, and oh what fun we had.
Bring in the staw! Gotta fill the insides too.
And sew on a face that is just right.
Working as a team to get him to stay together.
Learning how to sew through felt.
This is CC and his grandma concentrating on their scarecrow face.
Thank you to all my wonderful volunteers!
We couldn't have done it without you.

The day was a huge SUCCESS!
You can find this scarecrow located in the Library.

He likes to read, see his book?

This is Johnny.

And this guys name is John.

Happy Birthday JC

Today we celebrated JC's birthday. It was so fun to greet the students today. They came with their arms full of
everything you would need to create a really neat scarecrow. I can't
wait until tomorrow when we put them together.

Scarecrow Planning

****Reminder****
This is the last week for our Read A Thon. All money needs to be turned in October 16th. If we collect $3,500, our Principal is going to let us wear our PJ's to school and play games while we have a snack. If we earn $5,000, she is going to let us throw water balloons at her while she runs around the playground. This, I would love to see!
Please help your child collect $$$$$.
We are working in cooperative groups to make a scarecrow. Each group will have 6 people in it. I am providing the frame and a gunny sack head. The students here are planning who will bring what for their scarecrow. Here they are volunteering to bring an item. They are really doing a good job listening and working together.
Towards the end of our planning, this group shared
with us their items they are going to bring. We need all items
at school by Tuesday.

During reading class we took a test using the clickers. Students are able to input their answers with a remote control. They get instant feedback as to whether their answer is correct.

We all like this form of testing. The little guy you see in the back has been gone, so he didn't take the test. He thought it was a bummer.

These students have completed 25 laps around the playground and received their walking foot charm. Congratulations!
JS was "caught being good". During the day, any adult can pass out a ticket to someone "caught being good". Then the student fills it out and puts it in the office basket. Once a week, names are drawn and students get to choose a prize.
Happy Birthday CA. It was fun having your party at school.

These two are up to no good.

CC had CS come to me and explain how SOMEONE???? hit a baseball through the classroom window. If you look close you can see it right over their shoulder. Hummmmm....
( It was just a cling on baseball)
