Grandparent/Family Day

Today many family members came and joined us for lunch. After eating a BBQ lunch, we went out to recess.
After a little time outside, we came in and interviewed our guests.
It was fun to hear all the answers to our questions.
Family time is special!
It was fun to see our room full of smiles.
Days like this are so special to us.
Some of us got adopted for the day too. How can you not?
Thank you everyone for coming in and helping us make this day great.

At the end of the day we put the finishing touches on our art work.
Now we have some on display in the hallway. Derek Munson (author of Enemy Pie) will enjoy it when he comes next week. Friday is the last day to order one of his books. It is a great story. Cost is $14.00 and he will autograph it.

Reading Buddies

Calling all volunteers...We are organizing our yearly Field Day event.
I need three parent volunteers to each oversee
an event from 8:00 to 11:00 on Tuesday, June 5th.
If you would be willing to spend the morning with us, please let me know.
Today we read with our reading buddies.
We are all working on giving our full attention to each other. Here our 4th grade buddy is reading with great expression.
Both students are enjoying this book.
These girls are too.

Author Study - Derek Munson

Today we read the story, Enemy Pie, by Derek Munson.
He is coming to McKay, May 2nd. After the story, we illustrated what we would do to be a friend.
We drew ourselves (with round heads and eyes far apart) with crayons. Then we painted the background with Payons. We will display them in the hallway for Mr. Munson to see when he comes.
As we finished up, we each found something fun to do.
Here are a couple boys at the listening center.
These boys chose to play a card game.
JJ and BR did too.

Teaching Assembly

We started this morning out by switching to new table spots to work. We also have new name tags which have our name in braille. You can see us here getting use to how it feels. CF brought his coin collection in to show us.
We are reading about coins in his reading group.
This afternoon, we attended a teaching assembly.
It focused on being a good friend and being a caring person.
We came away with the trophy for being such a good part of the audience.
Here we are before we open our fruit roll ups that came with the trophy.
JW likes to roll his all up in a big ball and eat it in one bite. Look at that cheek!
CF was having fun because they just happened to be tattoo fruit roll ups.

Busy Short Week

We are collecting money for the businesses that were involved in the fire last month. I found SB lifting our money jar during a quiet time. We are very proud of how much money we have donated. This is a reading group taking their end of the unit test.
Tuesday and Wednesday we added pages to our photo albums.
They sure turn out nice. It is one of our favorite activities.

This is HS donating a bunch of coins to our money jar.
We will be collecting through April.

Mrs. Curtis came in and gave us our STAR reading certificates.
These are the students that completed their 5 hours of reading in March.
