Birthday Lunch

Mrs. Thorne invited all students with a January birthday to eat lunch with her.
Here MA and CL are getting a hug from her. Happy Birthday girls.
I love to see happy kids!

Today we started reading a new Jigsaw Jones story.
In the story, the students put their heads together to solve a riddle.
These three were listening well, because as soon as I read that
part, their heads went together.

I gave everyone their new spelling words today.
Here the boys are writing the word on the board.

After writing the word, we switch into math.

We are learning how to figure the area of an item.

Here BB is outlining the area of the word "here".

Next, DL read as PS tracked.
Before lunch we played a quick game of rumor.

Surprise Party!

Friday we made brownies for our surprise party.
This is BB pouring in the brownie mix. Then TC mixed it all together.
NE scooped them into muffin tins.
Meanwhile, the rest of us tried putting our invitation together.
We wrote a letter and then cut it into puzzle pieces to add to our guests fun.
At 10:15, RV and KZ put our "Operation Surprise Party" under way.
They took the puzzle pieced invitation over to our second grade buddies.
Here is what they found once it was back together.

At 10:30 they arrived and we presented them each with a very special message.

Everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

Then we pulled out the brownies and punch.
Here is a group doing a "cheer".

Everyone was happy.

After the party, we played "I eight it".
That was a great hit.
Operation Surprise Party was completed and a huge success!
HH brought in a bunch of pop can tabs.
Wow! this can really help others.

Is That You Winter?

Last week we all read the story, Is That You, Winter?
So this week we finished our drawing of the story.
It was fun to work and visit with eachother after the long break.
This afternoon we worked on our new spelling words.
This weeks words are words with "ar" in them.
Here PS is teaching us how to spell his word, marshmallow! On Monday, our second grade buddies came over and read their New Years Resolution Readers Theater to us. Here is a little sample. It was fun to hear them and also had some funny humor that we all enjoyed.
