Oregon Aquarium

Thanks to a private donation, we got to see some neat items from the Oregon Aquarium.
We felt pelts of four different mammals.
We saw a variety of bones too.

During one of our reading groups, we are learning about gum.
Now we are in the process of making a package of our own gum. Soon we will be making a commercial for it. Stay tuned.

Mrs. Parker Joins Our Class

Today we made AP his birthday book. He just turned 8.
We have a bag with all kinds of questions in it and the birthday person passes them out to us and then we ask them the question.

This afternoon we got to read our letters from our pen pals.
We were so excited to get them! Each letter had pictures on it of things we like.

We felt very special! Thank you Pen Pals, you're the BEST!

JC's had bugs on it and we ALL knew he was going to LOVE it! (and he did).

Everyone had fun showing and sharing their letters with their friends.

This is AP showing Mrs. Parker his photo album. Mrs. Parker will be with us for the rest of the year doing her student teaching practicum. We are really glad she is with us.
AR's shared this giant trophy that she and her team earned over Spring Break.
They competed in the National Dance Competition. Congratulations dancers!

Fire Safety

Thursday we had three firemen teach us about fire safety.
We talked about the importance of smoke alarms...
and how to get low if you are ever in a situation with a fire.
We learned to feel the door before we open it.
If the door is hot or there is smoke on the other side of the door, we should climb out our window like FA is doing here.
We also learned that we should have a family meeting place.
Today, we met by the mailbox.
We hope that we are never near a fire, but if we are, we will know how to get out safely.
This is Jimmy. He fights forest fires. He talked to us about matches and how they are not a toy and that if we play with them, they will take (burn) our stuff away from us.
His is a talented artist. He was able to incorporate his drawing into a story to help us understand how a fire affects our friends in the wild.
Thank you for helping us learn how to stay safe!

Saint Patrick's Day

That sneaky Leprechaun came to McKay.
We found footprints all over our room. Then later in the day JD discovered a note.
We found out that if we held them up to the mirror, we could read them.
KC found another note under our lunch tub.
EN found the magic powder in a cupboard.
The note told us to mix it with Magic Moo juice. We took that to be "milk".
When we poured it in, the white powder turned GREEN.
Then we shook it.
Then we ate it! Yummmmm...
BR brought in some baby sharks to share with us.
GU set traps at his house last night to catch a Leprechaun.
He brought in some pictures of his trap and what they looked like when he woke up.
(Sorry, the picture didn't show up here.)
Monday we met with our second grade friends to practice
our addition facts to help us get a little quicker.
We plan on meeting again soon because it was so fun.

Golden Awards!

Today during our Integrity Awards Assembly we were so pleased to be awarded THREE trophies. We received awards for keeping our room clean, owning our mistakes and fixing them during recess, and for working well as a group during p.e.
Today we took some time to create some art work.
We drew simple stick figures doing some kind of action,
and then added bold colors to different sections.
Everyone loved how their pictures turned out.
It felt great to work together.

Our finished project. Simple & Fun.
Thank you to all the citizens of Pendleton that help with the RIF (Reading is Fundamental) program that allows us to select a book to bring home.

Pie Social and Bingo

Conferences are this Tuesday and Thursday.
Your child has been busy preparing for your conference, so please bring them with you. They would love to share their hard work with you.
We had a great turn out at our Pie Social Fundraising event.
Thank you to everyone who helped and attended this year.
I helped out at the face painting (my favorite part of the Pie Social) this year.
It was a lot of fun because it gave me a chance to visit with some old friends.

On Thursday we had fun playing Bingo for Books with Mrs. Miltenberger (our Principal).
