Ice-Cream

Last week the kids made ice cream during science and it was a blast!
They had to shake it inside a shirt because it was too cold to hold onto.
And it passed the taste test.

imac & TweenTribune

Our grant money from Wildhorse came in and we were able to order our mini itouch lab and an imac! The first thing we did with it is explore the "Photo Booth" program.
Click the button once and it will take 4 quick pictures of you and them combine it into one really fun picture.

We found another awesome reading site. Each student has a login to www.tweentribune.com which has a ton of student safe news articles which they can read and comment on. Check it out!
In science the kids made soda pop. Here they are making
measuring their ingredients.

We are learning our shapes and how we can make the same shapes with other shapes.

Science and Videos

Third graders have been joining Mrs. Oliver's class to do some really cool science experiments.

One day they made paste.
Then they learned how to make soda pop.

We are wrapping up our video project. Here are CR and MP editing the videos they shot last weekend.
They completed their movie and we couldn't wait to see it.
Everyone gathered around and watched.

Pointillism Art

A couple amazing parents came in on Friday and taught us about Pointillism art.
We used toothpicks and watercolor paint. Look at how cute they turned out.

Writing, Fractions and Geometry

We are working on writing good paragraphs. We know we have to come up with a topic, then decide on a main idea. Today we added supporting sentences.
We partnered up and drew a picture of our favorite thing about school.
Then today we added the supporting sentences. Tomorrow we will blog our stories if we have enough time. I hope your child is sharing their blog with you. If you don't know what I am talking about....please ask them to show you their blog.
Happy Readers.
We are all studying fractions now. Here the kids are making their own fraction bars.
I have posted more websites to help your child master fractions on my web page.

Science/Reading

Thank you for sticking with us as I struggle to blog on a more regular basis.
Today it was so nice to listen to the children read with a partner. Thursday we will do our DIBELS reading and I can't wait to see how our scores improve. We are reading up a storm.

Third graders joined Mrs. Oliver today for a science lesson. They investigated what happens when you pour water in with salt, and what happens when you add water to sugar.
One of the neatest ways we use the itouch is to record our reading.
I save students recordings onto flipcharts and then we listen to each other.

We still love to play "Flip It" with our cards.

Happy New Year!

We are finishing up our movies this week.
I hope to be able to post a few short ones when we are all done.
We have been enjoying our blogs. Second graders have more time to blog and are quite active on them. It is neat to see parents commenting on their child's work. Thank you! Third graders....this is a fun thing to do at home. I will show you how to upload pictures when you want. Just ask.
Third graders will have a cursive handwriting packet coming home tomorrow. Parents we could use some help with this. Please check in with your child and see if they need any reminders how to write the letters correctly.
