Spirit Week

REMINDER

McKay Reads Read-A-Thon

Our Read-A-Thon will end this Friday, October 28th. Students have next week, October 31st—November 4th, to collect pledges and turn in their reading record sheet.

To participate in the Skating Rink Party, and be considered for prizes, students need to have met their classroom reading goal and turn in their October reading record sheet by 8:30 on Friday, November 4th, 2011. Any record of reading will be accepted. It does not have to be the bookmark or teacher made page, as long as the record indicates students have met their reading goal and it is signed by an adult. (Students who do not meet their reading goal or turn in their reading record sheets by the deadline will remain at school on the day of the skating party.)

Pajama day was fun because we got to wear our cozy pajamas to school.

Tomorrow is WACKY WEDNESDAY! We can't wait. Come back to see our pictures.

We have a new game on the itouch. It is called Cash Cow.

We learn about money and it is an adding game.

Tomorrow will be our fourth day working on our Unit test in reading.

Lots of us have 100% so far and we are all doing well. It feels great!

These are some of the pictures for our Halloween stories that we are making.

We each are making our own story. They are GOOD so far.

We will make them into video books and we hope to share them with you soon.

This boy is afraid of the huge pumpkin rolling toward him.

She is trick or treating.

This one is about a boy who goes from house to house trick or treating by flying his dad's jet around the world.

Pumpkin Patch

We had fun at Bellinger Farm’s pumpkin patch today. There were tall skinny ones, short fat ones, and everything in between. We even had lots of colors to choose from. The colors were white, green, yellow, and orange.

Some of Mrs. Golter's class came over to read us their own stories that they made.

One had lots of words and only one picture. The other stories had pictures and words on each page. One pair of writers even wrote questions to go with their story. One person wrote a story about her life. Their stories were so good that they made pictures in our heads as we listened to them read.

This is our reading chart that tells us what we can do to become a better reader.

The high lighted ones are the ones we have already done this week.

We are working on our fluency and our comprehension.

All second graders in our room passed their math test on subtraction today and we are all really happy about that.

We all tried multiplication (even 2nd graders) problems today and did really good.

We tried really hard to do our best.

We are curious about you, our readers. Please take a moment to leave us your answers to the following questions in a comment below. Thank you!

How many Jack o' lanterns are you going to make?

What was your favorite costume for Halloween when you were a kid?

TP is playing on the monkey bars at recess.

Mrs. Straughan gave us treats and pencils for the monkey moments.

We made our wish lists at the
book fair today.

During art today, it looked like a tornado blew through.

But it was all worth it. Look at the pictures below.
This is what it turned out like after the storm.
This one is DW's art work.

This is B.B's art work.

We get "Monkey Moments" if our whole entire class gets a compliment from a teacher. We made it to the floor with monkeys, and now we get a treat!

On Friday we painted paper for our pumpkin artwork.

We used cups, cards, and markers to paint designs on our paper.

CK showing what her paper looked like after squishing it with another persons painting.

GP cutting out her pumpkin.
We will try to finish them this week and share them here with you.

We earned suckers from S.T.A.R with Mrs. Miltenberger today.

We are going to have a Read A Thon this month. We will get our papers tomorrow and share them with you. Maybe you can help us earn money to finish getting computers for the library computer lab.
