Emu Egg

Today we got to hold an emu egg. We were surprised to see how heavy it was. It is a lot different than our chicken eggs.

Starting Eggs

Today we put 15 chicken eggs in the incubator. This is ER getting ready to close the door and officially begin the countdown.




Tomorrow is our writing festival. We are making a sign to decorate our door.

LR grandma went to Walla Walla and got us some new eggs to hatch. We will set them in the incubator tomorrow morning. Wish us luck!

Coloring Eggs

We painted a couple eggs each today. This is SA and JJ painting their eggs.

Book Fair

We read a story about Wilber the Easter Bunny today and then we drew him. This is PH bunny. Our parents club is putting on the Book Fair. It will be open April 13 -18th.
CC lost a tooth today!

Mr. Holden's Educational Owl

Today Mr. Holden talked to us about owls. This one weighs the same as 72 paperclips. He use to have a broken wing. He can not return to the wild. We read one of my favorite Easter Bunny stories today. Then we drew the Easter Bunny.
These girls chose to work together on their bunny.

No chicks! We opened the shells up and discovered all the green eggs were duds. After reading more, we discovered it is common that some chicks will die right before hatching. This is caused by bacteria (The duds). We want to try it again, this time with eggs we can see through.

Thursday and Friday are Grandparent days.

Nothing has happened with our chicks yet. We are discussing what we should do from here. We decided to give them until Monday. If nothing happens, we will clean the incubator and try again. I came in on Saturday, and still no progress.
We took our spelling test today. I am happy with how well everyone is doing on their weekly tests. Good job everyone!

Still Waiting

We are still waiting! This morning before school, I opened an egg. It was rotten. I checked another one and it was good! We are watching it close and hoping for the best. Yesterday we went to the computer lab and did some research on our animals.
We also worked on our electronic portfolios. You will get to see these at conferences.
In the afternoon we went to the Wax Museum that the 4th graders put on. Here are some pictures of some of our sisters who are in 4th grade.

Almost Ready to Hatch

I caught JS trying to listen for some "peeping" early this morning. We think they will start breaking through the shell tomorrow.GB and BP are putting their words on the time line of our eggs. They are explaining about the best temperature for the eggs. See their thermometer?
We are also growing seeds. We planted them today.
MM is showing the thank you note we wrote to PGG for the incubator.
We are beginning our animal research projects. If you have any books about animals that we could borrow, that would be great. This is BW with some of the books he is letting us use.

Candling Eggs


Today we took the eggs into a dark room and candled them. We were able to see the chicks moving inside. It was really neat. When we come back from spring break they will almost be ready to hatch. We are making a bulletin board about our chicken eggs. This group is painting the rooster.
These two are making the farmer who got us the eggs.


These two made the eggs. We have two different kinds of eggs, brown and green.

Our Library has a new system that helps us find certain books. This is JB trying to find a book about hatching chicken eggs.
LM and SA enjoying a few magazines together.
JM helped us with the number corner today. We are learning how to subract with renaming.

Lunch Surprise!

Today JJ found a golden ticket in her lunch. She was able to trade it in for a prize. The lunch ladies wanted to do something special for us. Read more about it in the latest newspaper that is coming home on Friday.
