Secret Message and Party

We received a secret message today!
It had lines and numbers on it. Then we
figured out the highest number was 26,
so we thought each number might stand for a letter of the ABC's.
Some of us worked on solving it on the big note,
while others worked with a partner.
It turned out to be a surprise game day party with our second grade friends in the gym.
We walked in the gym and they each invited us to play a board game with them.
They had everything from cards to Twister.
After one game, we got to try another game.
It was a lot of fun!!!

Then they served us a chocolate chip cookie along with a drink. What a fun way to spend with our friends.
Thank you room 5.

A Happy Smile

Happy Valentine's Day

We had a great time at our Valentine Party this afternoon.
Here is RV passing out the sugar cookies she brought.
HH brought these yummy brownies.
SM brougth these conversation hearts.
Everyone loved how big they were.
Let the party begin!
We ate and visited with each other for awhile.
Then we opened our valentines.

Before we ate our treats, we took pictures with our Valentine hats so we could add a page to our photo albums.
These two groups invited Mrs. Dennis into their pictures.

Earlier in the week we did our writing assessment. Here is NE working on his.
The assignment was to edit the sentence and then write at least two sentences to go with it.
On Tuesday we also got a free R.I.F book.
Thank you to everyone who makes this project possible.
We love to get books.
Monday Mrs. Miltenberger came in and gave us our S.T.A.R certificates
for reading 5 hours in January.
Good job everyone.

"McKay Reads" Read A Thon

Today Mrs. Miltenberger, our Principal, announced that she would bring in the BIG TOYS if all of McKay students could earn $4,000 during our Read A Thon this month.

Read A Thon is from February 11-22nd.

Pledges should be collected the week of February 25th-29th.

I really hope that we can earn a substantial amount of money with this project. We are one of the lucky classrooms that has an interactive board in our classroom and the learning and motivation that takes place amazes me on a daily basis.
I hope that you will help us once again as we try to bring the best education possible to your child.
Mrs. Miltenberger also presented us with our January S.T.A.R certificates.

Panda Study

This week we learned about Panda bears.
We wrote a summary about them before drawing
these cute paintings.
This one is DL's work.
We got the help from Jan Brett, a famous author illustrator, in drawing our bears.
Here we are watching the video and drawing along.
First we drew with pencil.
Then we used Payons to add color.
Here is our largest reading group reading together with student teacher Mrs. Padberg.
Our reading basal story this week was about a cat that shares his life between two houses.
After completing the story, we went online to learn more about the fastest cat in the world, the cheetah.
LR and JM have earned their 25 mile walking club charm
and they each got a jumprope. Way to go girls.
AD and KZ earned a heart charm from Mrs. Hamilton in P.E. too.
At the end of the day we had a few minutes for choice time. Here CS and LR are
working some math problems on the board.
JV decided to make this object.
These four enjoyed using the geoboards together.
Here is MA working on her writing assignment.
This is AD with his.
The assignment was to write and expain to me what they
understand about having a student teacher in the room.
Early in the morning the kids were admiring their artwork in the calendar.

Valentine's Day Hats

Today we made our Valentine holders. First we read the story of Abe Lincoln and His Hat.
He use to put all his important letters in his hat.

Now we will put our IMPORTANT letters in our hats.
I sent home a list of names to help students fill out their Valentines.
Now that we have containers, students may start bringing in their Valentines when they are ready.
We also painted hearts for our February calendar.
We haven't painted for awhile, so we had a lot of fun.

Happy Birthday!

Today we celebrated our third birthday in a week.
This is GH getting ready to be interview for his birthday magazine which we will make for him. After lunch we went to the gym for an assembly teaching us about being diligent.
Next month we will be honoring students with charms for those that don't give
up and always keep trying and learning.
Bucky took a few moments with us since we were the first to arrive.
He decided to sit on Mrs. Padberg's lap. (Mrs. Padberg is our student teacher).
