What a Great Group

We have been in school for 6 days and I can tell that we are going to have a lot of fun together.
We are settling in to a routine and getting into our reading and math programs.
Today we did a few math problems using the Promethean board.
Here is KC.
This is LS. She is the first to loose a tooth in our class this year!

Making Memories

It is fun to see everyone making friends and having fun together.

We got into pairs and talked about things we both liked and didn't like.

Then we filled out a paper and drew a simple picture of us to decorate the hall with.

Today we also finished up our very first scrapbook page.

We write a short paragraph to help us remember how we felt on the first day of second grade. That way when we are old and gray, we will remember :o)

Welcome Back Assembly

Friday morning we all met in the gym for a Welcome Back to School Assembly.
The Round Up and Happy Canyon Court came and invited us all to come see them down at the Round Up.
Bucky, our school mascot also came.
Here he is playing a game with us were we get to copy doing what he is doing.
In the afternoon we took a math test.
We all sat on our own and tried to do as many problems as we could.

Writing With AlphaSmarts

Today we got out the AlphaSmarts (they are like simple laptops that are kid friendly) and typed up a few sentences about our first day of school. We will use this writing on our first scrapbook page.
Here is DC downloading his writing onto the laptop so we can print it.
We also played "Flip it High" with our cards again. I like to see how many students are able to use the "counting on" strategy to count fast.
Friday I have an important paper coming home that explains our classroom management and a few other important items. Please look for it in your child's backpack. Thank you. Have a nice weekend.

Cartooning & Making Friends

Friends at recess having fun!
I just had to put this picture in too because they are so sweet.
With Round - Up starting next week, I taught the class how to draw
a bull that Lauri (local artist) taught me when I was in second grade.
They turned out with a lot of personality.
These boys were playing kickball but took a moment out of the game to pose for me.
We learned how to play "Flip it High" today with our playing cards.
It might be fun to see if your child can teach you how to play.

Off to a Great Start!

We had such a busy and fun first day of second grade.
Many students received "Thanks for Making Good Choices" slips during recess.
Here DC and KS are turning their slips. Mrs. Miltenberger (Principal) will draw out a few names on Friday for a prize.
TM landed with a smile after a really good cartwheel during recess.
Here KS and SO are working on their "Friends" paper.
MH and AS discover things they both like and record it on their paper.
FA and GU had fun finding out things they have in common.
It was a fast and busy day! I am very excited for more great days to come.
Thank you for stopping in.

Ending On a FUN Note

This week we explored some fun science experiments.
Here we are making trying an experiment with a water base colored liquid and milk. We tried to move the color through
the milk. This group got a neat star with their experiment.

Then we made raisins dance.

Here is KC attempting to make an egg drop into a glass without touching it (see video below).

We have had a GREAT year together and I want to thank you for
sharing your wonderful children with me. It has been a priveledge and a pleasure.

Rewards

As soon as we get our library books turned in we get a popscikle. Yummy!
If you still have books out, you have until Wednesday to cash in on this treat.
These girls have walked between 55 and 65 miles this year during recess in the mileage club. I think this record will stand for many years! Way to go, very impressive.

Field Day

Today we started the day with our anual Field Day.
Thank you to all the parent volunteers who make this day possible.
We all love it!

There were 21 different events to go to.
Here DL is the anchor on the tug of war.
After lunch a PHS student came and guided us through a writing assignment.
Students traced their hands and then took turns rotating their papers to have other students
write nice sentences about each student. We will put these in our photo albums.
Mrs. Miltenberger came in and gave us our S.T.A.R charms and certificates too for all the reading we did this month.
Then we finished the day with our last play of the year.
We had a fun filled day!

Visitor From Kenya

We were so lucky to meet Pauline who grew up in Kenya.
She showed us pictures of some people from Africa and let us ask questions about life
in Africa. It was a wonderful opportunity.
Today was our last day with our reading buddies so we had a small party.
We had a 3 legged race and then enjoyed ice-cream.

Yeserday we performed our first play of Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock.
It was so much fun. I can't wait to see the next two plays this week. Thank you
parents for coming in and letting us perform for you.
TC did a great job as our reader.
CSH was a great elephant.
NW was a hippo.
AD made a great lion.
KZ was our rhino.
JM was set to be our giraffe but she was sick. GH played the part of Anansi the Spider.
LH peeking out as Little Bush Deer.
