Snack Sale Is Coming Up

All second graders have been asked to bring in some kind of snack for the Parents Club snack food sale this Friday.

Students will be able to purchase snacks for 50 cents.

New Blog

I have opened up a new blog site where the children will be doing all the posting.

We have a few posts already and many more on the way. We are working on correct capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. It won't be perfect, but we hope you enjoy it

Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is possibly our favorite day of the year.

We had all kinds of good treats to eat.
Lots of good friends,
and special valentines.

Valentine Holders

This week we read a wonderful story about how Abraham Lincoln kept all his important papers in his tall top hat. We decided to make tall hats like he had and put our important Valentine's in .

We will have our Valentine party on Thursday since we don't have school on Friday.

Trophy

Today we went to a teaching assembly where the staff and leadership team taught us about the characteristic of being a "caring" citizen. At the end of the assembly one class of primary students is awarded a trophy for the best assembly behavior. Today we earned the trophy.

Another month has gone by so we opened up the store.

Everyone decide what they wanted to purchase with their pennies that they have earned.

I sure enjoy watching 7 and 8 year olds count money.

Painting Hearts

This week we painted some hearts.

First we painted the heart and then added a little white to add highlights.

Then came the background.

I had them make an extra so I could frame it and place it in our room.

They turned out perfect.

Pajama Day

Today was pajama day!

Possibly the best school day ever.

Special Teachers Visit

Today we had nine retired teachers come visit our classroom

to learn how to use the Interactive board.

We taught them how to use the expressions as they answered

questions about themselves.

I think everyone enjoyed the experience.

They also saw all the different ways we use the Promethean board and how we use Elluminate to work with other classrooms outside of our building.

Thank you for sharing our morning with us and being so excited about what we are doing.

Surprise Party

We planned a surprise party for our second grade buddies here at McKay.

We created their invitation using the interactive board. We made math problems for them to solve and then they matched the letter to the number to be able to read the invitation. It was fun.
We have had a few really nice days outside.

These girls were playing dragons. They are sitting on their eggs.

Back to the surprise party. We decided to have brownies and Dr. Pepper.

Finally it was time for our guests to arrive and let the fun continue.

The tall fancy glasses were fun to toast with.

After eating, we had a few activities planned. One was to share a math site where we can set up to race against each other doing math flashcards.

Another activity was to play on our "math mat".

The third activity was an arts and crafts area.

The final activity was to play a card game.

This is what the room looks like with 50 students all engaged and having fun.

Today was our snack food sale. Some of us forgot our money but luckily our friends were prepared to help us out. A few students like to bring extra money to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to get a treat.

We ended the day with new letters from our pen pals.

Each letter was very special and we can't wait for spring to come so we can meet our pen pals in the park for a picnic. We are becoming very good friends. Thank you pen pals for making us feel so special. We love your letters.
