Students that would like to be in charge of blogging for a day have put their name into a bucket in hopes of being a "Guest Blogger". We will be pulling out a name each day to see who our "Guest Blogger will be. They must take a picture and write their blog before the end of the day to get it published. Should be fun for you to see their work.

Today's Guest Blogger is: KL

Music & 100th Day

In music we can earn points for, silent entering, participating in activities, and exiting silently. This week we earned our 30th point in music so we got a Karaoke/Instrument party. We also did freeze dance at the end. Music was stupendous!

On February 22nd, it will be our 100th day of school. Typically 2nd and 3rd graders don't celebrate the 100th day but this year we have a writing project and we need to do a little planning for it. On Feb. 22nd, I would like each student to dress up like a 100 year old person. This might include necklaces, sweaters, skirts, sports jacket, slacks, glasses, hats, wigs, baby powder in hair to make it silver......
IF students have access to canes or walkers they may bring those in also.

Guest blogger: GP (From now on, each day we will have a student be our blogger for all or part of the day.)

GP- In P.E today we played a volleyball game called Shower Ball.

Second graders started learning about measurement today.

We learned about non standard measurement, length, weight, and capacity. We measured length with wooden blocks, glue sticks, and dominos.

LS and CK made a book for a student in another class that is interested in learning multiplication. Since they also have itouches, the girls made a book showing which apps they suggest he start with.

Surprise Party

Today Mrs. Thorne surprised us with ice cream and a fun focus game because we had 91% attendance this quarter.

The focus game was fun for us because we had to roll the ball to a student and then remember who it was for the next round in the game.

Art With Annie Heron

Parents,

We are in DESPERATE NEED of headphones. Some of us have none and some of us are on our last set. I need everyone to send one more set please. We use them all the time with the computers and our itouches.

Now onto the fun we had last week.

This week we made clay tiles with Annie Heron, our Artist in Residents.
It is going to be Public Art. That means it is going to stay in the school forever!
We put all kinds of animals on our tiles, like dolphins, birds, baby rhinos, dogs, fish, and turtles.
This weekend they are getting fired. Next week we are going to glaze them.

Arrival From Africa

Today we got a letter from Kampala, Uganda.

It is a learning center for young children that are less fortunate or orphaned and they want a relationship with people around the world and they chose us! They want to exchange letters and art work with us.

We hope to write to them soon so we can learn more about them.

Videolicious Videos

We decided to break out of the normal routine today. We did some quick research and then made videos using the (free) app, Videolicious. We are not able to republish the images we used onto the Internet here on the blog for you to see, so we emailed them to ourselves. Help your child sign into their school email account and you can see it there using your ipad or itouch. I know not everyone has one of these devices, so I will continue to search for ways we can upload this type of project in the future.
Student email accounts are:
(lunch number)followed by: @pendletonsd.org
Have a wonderful weekend!

New Friend

Today we met a new friend!
JQ joined our class this morning from Medford, Oregon. He is a boy and in 3rd grade. We can tell he is really nice and makes good choices so he will always stay on a green behavior card. AB, CK, and EF played on the play equipment with him.
JQ said he had a pretty good day and that he met a lot of new friends. He has a motto that he shared with us. It is, "You always have to be prepared for tomorrow.

Off to a Busy New Year!

Ms. Schimel introduced a new word work project today. It is called Boggle. We try to find as many words as we can using the letters on the board. She likes us to start by finding the shortest words first, then the longest words. We can have help from home too. :o)

We have new apps on the iPad to help us learn cursive, writing, and math.
Kabaam, Times Table, + Bubbles x, and Big Trace.

We also started creating digital art today. CK made a snowman.

Gingerbread Houses

We completed our giraffe art this week and have them on display in the hallway. I think they are my newest favorite.

At the end of the day we decorated our gingerbread houses.
Here is MC with fun written all over his face.
New village of gingerbread houses.

Some of us completed our November reading goal and were invited to make these cute crafts with Mrs. Miltenberger.
My helpers getting the candy ready for decorating.
Had great help making the cement icing for assembling our gingerbread houses.
Hope your holidays are bright, see you next year.

Funny Faces EBook

Here is our latest EBook. We have asked our 3rd grade Google Buddies in LaGrande to score our writing. This is a sample of our very best writing that we can do on our own. We are trying hard to use the following skills:
1. Start sentences with capital letters.
2. Correctly use punctuation
3. Accurate spelling
4. Organize using paragraphs
5. Write in a way that keeps our readers interested

Alligators and Snowflakes

DW taught us how to make snowflakes.

They turned out really awesome and look like real snowflakes.

Mrs. Thorne brought a game that had little alligator heads that was called Alligator Swamp.

It helped us with impulse control. We couldn't talk or get up to tell the person how to finish the maze. If we moved the right way, Mrs. Thorne would say, "ding". If we moved the wrong way, she would say, "Rrrrahhhh". That means the alligator woke up and found us on their heads. Yikes!
