Today the 3rd graders learned how to use a calculator to check our work.

Christmas Program

Our Christmas Program is coming soon.

It is on Wednesday, December 7th at 1:00pm at the Vert Auditorium downtown.

We will travel by bus and return to school after the program.
We hope you can attend. We had dress rehearsal today and we did great!

Everyday our janitor, Susan, comes in our room and leaves us a design on our carpet after she vacuums it. This morning we figured out it was a picture of a letter to Santa. This is what it looked like today.

Work This Week

We started a new writing project today using the 4 square model again. This time we are using "Christmas" as our topic. Tomorrow we are going to evaluate our writing using our rubrics.

Yesterday we started a new art project. It is a drawing of a giraffe. The background will have an abstract background. We will show you pictures later when we start adding color.

We played a special game at P.E. and it is called, "Wizards, Giants, and Elves". The elves can get the wizards powers. The wizard can blast the giant out of the universe. The Giants can crush the elves because they are so small.

We used a "Four Square" writing template today to write about Thanksgiving. Quickly we uploaded them here to share with you. During the SAVE process, we had internet trouble so some of our work got messed up. LS turkey refused to move to her writing so you will have to scroll down to see what she wrote. Her turkey is the 3rd one down I believe.

Christmas Art

We made some art for Christmas.

First we drew an ornament, then a Christmas tree,

then a candy cane or present, then a Santa or reindeer with pencil. Then we painted them.

Then we used black Sharpie markers to outline the pencil lines.

Then we painted cross lines to make them look like windows or four pictures.

This is what some of them look like as they hang in the hallway.

Where The Wild Things Are

Our class made an art project yesterday. This is CK's "Wild Thing." We used color, shape, and texture to create our own "Wild Things." We got our idea to make this art project from the story, "Where The Wild Things Are."This is AO's "Wild Thing." His "Wild Thing" has horns, a stripped shirt, black teeth, and a tree behind him.

Division & Coins

We (3rd graders) learned division today!

30 divided by 5 = 6

That means if you have 30 cookies and we give 5 neighbors the same amount of cookies, how many cookies do we give each neighbor?

Division math was fun and it felt great to learn a new skill.

We (2nd graders) started learning how to add coins. We used pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarters. It was fantastic counting with real money.

S.T.A.R

GR and EF won these books at S.T.A.R reading bingo. We are happy and ready to play Bingo with Mrs. Miltenberger.

She invites us once a month to play Bingo for Books with her.
The third graders are helping us sell tickets for The Basket Auction.
They are bringing packets home today.

First to 25 Miles

C.K. and K.L. were the first students in the whole school to reach 25 miles. 25 miles is 5 walking club cards. You have to do 20 laps to finish a card. If you are the first from your class to walk 25 miles, you get any kind of ball you want. If you reach 25 miles you also get to meet with Ms. Oakland for lunch.

Almost everyone brought in their read-a-thon bookmarks. In the month of October if you meet your goal of 5 hours, you get to go to Skate City for a skating party.

A group of students are creating kitten plays. There are a total of 8 kids that are participating in the plays. The plays are a mix of both inside and outside plays.

Baking Basket Delivery

Baking items are starting to fill up our classroom basket for the Basket Auction this month.

If you would like to send us something for our "BAKING" basket, we would sure appreciate it. We are trying to make it REALLY FULL, to the top and maybe even over!

Yep, I love technology, but sometimes I just can't figure it out. The picture wanted to come in sideways no matter what I tried, so this time.......it wins.

Halloween

We had one spooky Halloween Party!

Our class got to put their hands in the witch's potion.
We made the witch's potion with dry ice and warm water.

The witch's potion felt warm and cold at the same time.

We got to eat spicy salsa from AG's dad.

The cookies we had had sprinkles on the orange icing.

Thanks to MC and KL for bringing grapes and the milk.

DW brought goody bags with whoppers, pencils, popcorn, fruit by the foot, milk duds, pretzels, and ring pops shaped like skeletons, bats, pumpkins, or witches.

We can't wait for Halloween next year!

Spirit Week Part 2

Boys in high heels, boys in girl clothes, boys and girls with crazy pony tails, girls with flowers in their hair, wacky colored hair........ We definitely saw Wacky people on Wednesday!

Mrs. Schimel gave us Pirate Chompers today because she and her friend love Halloween.

REMINDER

McKay Reads Read-A-Thon

Our Read-A-Thon will end this Friday, October 28th. Students have next week, October 31st—November 4th, to collect pledges and turn in their reading record sheet.

To participate in the Skating Rink Party, and be considered for prizes, students need to have met their classroom reading goal and turn in their October reading record sheet by 8:30 on Friday, November 4th, 2011. Any record of reading will be accepted. It does not have to be the bookmark or teacher made page, as long as the record indicates students have met their reading goal and it is signed by an adult. (Students who do not meet their reading goal or turn in their reading record sheets by the deadline will remain at school on the day of the skating party.)

Pajama day was fun because we got to wear our cozy pajamas to school.

Tomorrow is WACKY WEDNESDAY! We can't wait. Come back to see our pictures.
