Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!
We began our day with a little science.
We made Halloween screamers.
We took them outside to the front yard and made some eery sounds.
Then we did another science experiment inside.
We took some dry ice and blocked it with a bubble
solution so that the fog turned into a crystal ball.
Then it popped.
Next we made "boo bubbles".
We even got them to bounce on the table.
Boo bubbles are made with dry ice again.
We captured the "fog" and sent it through a tube that had
soap on the end of the tube. It created great boo balls (ghost eyeballs).
As soon as they touched our hands, they would pop.
Then at 11:00 we performed our last Big Pumpkin play of the year.
It sure is fun to watch everyone perform. Thank you to all the
family that came and supported us.
This is CS our vampire.
After lunch we put on our costumes and headed down to
McKay Estates to show off our costumes. They loved
seeing the children and I was very proud of how the
children all interacted with the residents.
Then we started our party!
We had wonderful treats.
Thank you everyone who sent treats and
to those parents that helped in so many ways through out the day.
We had a spooktacular day!

Here is DL, the bat.
This is CL as the mummy!
"And they pulled and the tugged and they pulled and.......SNAP! Off came the pumpkin".

Scarecrow For Sale

This is our scarecrow that all second graders created. He is for sale at our November 8th auction.

I hope that he will bring in a lot of money and go to

a very good home.

Halloween News!!!
I have sent a note home for those of you that signed up to bring Halloween treats. If you didn't get a note, then we will ask you to help with another party later this year.
Our Halloween plans are: Do a few science experiments in the morning and the usual routine until lunch. Then at noon, we will put on our costumes and parade to McKay Estates. Then we will parade through McKay classrooms and take a short recess break. We will eat, play games, and make another science experiment from 1:35 to 2:45.

Many Fall Activities Going On

Today we practiced part of our Big Pumpkin Play.
We will be performing them on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Hope to see you. A fun activity came our way the other day.
Another classroom "Boo"ed us. They spread
a little fall fun our way. They wrote us great riddles
and supplied us with a good snack. Then we turned
around and made these cute cards with happy wishes
to the classroom that we "Boo"ed.
Today was our turn to go to the computer lab.
We went onto my classroom site where we found
many fun Fall activities to do. Go to:
http://www.pendleton.k12.or.us/ to do some more work.
Here is ER reading the story, with friends JM and LW, she created from one of the sites.
And then across the room, there is another group listening to a different story.
In the afternoon a really good friend came to visit us.
This is Mrs. Thorne with DUSO our good friend from kindergarten.

Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

We went to the Hermiston pumpkin patch today.
Here are LR and KC sitting next to
Mr. Skeleton on our hay ride out to the pumpkins. Here is GH holding a pumpkin. Notice his nice hat.
It is part of our spirit week. You will see a lot of hats today.
After our snack, we piled on a haystack.

DL and PS found the pumpkins they wanted
and then sat on the hay by some scarecrows.

These trips help us strengthen our friendships.
Here LW is giving NW a hug.

CSH liked this heavy pumpkin.

So many to choose from....how do we choose????
Everyone made their big pumpkin decision and loaded on the hay wagon
for the trip back to the bus. A good day had by ALL!

Dem Bones Graphing

Today I gave the children each a bag of candy bones. Then they sorted and counted them and filled in the graph.

It was a lot of fun and I thought it was funny when one student had more of one kind of candy so he asked me if he should just eat the extras.

Art For Our Auction

Today we signed thank you cards for our parent volunteers that helped us with our scarecrows last week. We are enjoying them in our room and hallway.
Hopefully they will always be a fond memory of their second
grade year.
We also started making art work for the Basket/Art Auction that is coming up on November 8th. We painted hearts and butterflies that we hope to make into cards.

Basket & Art Auction

On November 8th the McKay Staff and Parent Club will be hosting the annual Basket Auction. This year we will also be auctioning off student art work. Many students are busy painting or creating unique art projects to be sold on Nov. 8th. Money will go to the Parent Club. It is my personal goal to raise money this year to help purchase more Interactive Boards for other McKay classrooms. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending this great event. Our class has 3 projects for this event.
1. Parents please send in items that can go in
our classroom basket that
goes with the theme: Candles, Aroma Therapy
2. We will auction off a life size scarecrow
(separate from the ones that we made last week)
3. If we have time, we will paint a few pictures
and make them into cards that can be purchased.

Scarecrow Day

We did it!
We built our scarecrows and had so much fun working together.
I am very proud of everyone for the way they comprimised and showed great teamwork.
Here is a group learning how to stitch on the face.

Then we put on the pants and then stood up the stand.

Here is MA sewing on the face of their scarecrow.

NS had a lot of fun getting the hat ready.

This is a big project and it takes a lot of teamwork to pull it all off.
Here CL and LW are holding the frame upright while BT bolts it into the stand.

Here DL is sewing on one of the scarecrow eyes. Now for the stuffing!

Here LR is showing us that their scarecrow's face is ready to be added.
This is RV working on her groups scarecrow.
Everyone had a job to do.

LW is putting on the nametag she made.
"Stitch" what a perfect name.

SM and his mom sewing on a very happy smile.

Somehow these guys got really tall. Here DL is stretching to get the hat high enough.

Ahhh...done. What a happy group!

A new friend at school. Here is NE with his new buddy.

Here is another cute scarecrow created by group 4.

Hope you have a happy day.
Thanks for checking in with us.
