Coloring Eggs & RIF

Today was RIF day. "Reading is Fundamental". This is when we each get to pick out a book and keep it. Thank you to SW's parents for being a part of this program. We love our books.
We read a story today in reading group where a man wrote a story and used his photographs to tell the story. So we decided to try it. Here TD is taking a picture that will be used in one of our books. Stay tuned for more to come.
The kids have talked me into having sharing and you can see how much they enjoy it.
GC brought in this critter and we all had fun learning all that it can do.
Then I shared one of my favorite spring stories this afternoon and drew the main character.
His name is Wilbur.
Isn't BC's cute?
JS's is precious too.
Then we colored eggs. See our post at www.schimelkids.blogspot.com to learn more.
BU was showing me his two toned egg.
KB spent time making her egg fancy. It had four colors on it.

Catching Up

We opened up the classroom store before we went to Spring Break and spent our money that we have earned. CC was really thoughtful and shared her gumball machine with us.
Today I showed the kids how to practice their typing skills with the AlphaSmarts.
We are trying to keep our fingers on the home row keys and really, we are good at it already.
First we got to program them so they will keep track of the lessons we work through.
Here BU is working on his AlphaSmart.
We also finished up our art work today.
BC was very focused on his work and it is turning out beautiful.
KB and TD working on their typing skills.

Some of our art work for you to enjoy.

Going For a Walk

We started the next newspaper today and we'll try to get it out to you before we go to break.
Writing is getting so much easier. Many of us are able to help each other edit our work and give helpful feedback. It is a fun process to watch develop.
It was too nice out today to stay inside so we headed out for a walk.
We got a block away and had to stop to tie shoes...which gave me the opportunity for a photo, a goofy one...
and then a "how can you not love them" photo.
Our plan was to go over a few bridges. Looks like I put them in a cage doesn't it?

Our second bridge.

It was fun to get out and enjoy the weather with this great group of kids.

Books on Tape

Reminder:
Pie Social is tomorrow!
Thursday, March 11th at 5:30
We are working on our fluency and we are having fun recording ourselves as we read.
Tomorrow we are going to choose a book that we can read well, then we will record our voice and draw, or take, pictures to make it into a book on tape.

i touch Learning

At the beginning of the month we got to check out the mini i touch lab from the ESD.
We have all kinds of reading and math apps on them.
They are fun to learn with and we are keeping them very busy.

I came across some of our science pictures and realized I didn't post very many earlier so thought I would add them to today's post.
On this day we were trying to build the strongest bridge.
It was fun to watch as we worked with partners.

Classified Week

We are celebrating classified week and here the girls are creating a top ten list of why we love them.
We practiced an intruder drill today. Here we are in the corner waiting quietly for the "all clear" signal.
