Cartoon Artist

Today NE's grandma came in and painted a scene on our classroom window.
This short video captures it as it develops.

Mystery of the Practical Joker

For the last few weeks one of my reading groups has been reading mystery books. We thought it would be fun to make our own mystery, so we wrote and produced this movie. We had a lot of fun and would love to make more.

Teaching About Honesty

This morning we attended a teaching assembly. Students, parents, and teachers played a game based on the game, Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? Our version was, Are You Smarter Than a Mustang? Each teaching assembly there are judges watching to see which class shows really good assembly behavior and they award the class with a trophy. Yes! we won it today.
During recess we got caught in the rain, hail, and snow storm.

We ended the day making KZ a birthday book. How about this nice smile?

Big Toy Fun

What a fun day. We had two times to play on the big toys. This is the jumping tower. Here KC is ready to take off on the bungee run.
Then DE had a turn. It was really fun to get in the harness and then run as far as you could to place the velcro marker past your competitor.
KZ and LR had fun bouncing in the castle.
HH got a good laugh playing on the bungee run.

Here are some videos to help you see what our day was like.

African Projects

Tuesday we worked on completing a few projects.
Here is an art project that I did with the kids.
It was really hard to draw but painting the spots was a lot of fun.
I sure like how they turned out.
Mrs. Padberg (student teacher) had each person create a part of this Kente' cloth.

Then they each created a story to go with their strip of Kente' cloth.
Sometimes it is more fun to work laying on the floor with a friend.

Cartooning

Last week NE's grandma was filling in for someone so we asked her to teach us how to draw cartoons. She is the talented artist that paints on all the windows around town.
Our lions turned out pretty cute don't you think?
On Monday we created ML's birthday book. Mrs. Miltenberger brought us our S.T.A.R certificates last week.
Congratulations to the 15 students that turned in their reading charts.
Maybe next month we all can turn in our reading sheets. Want to try? I am only asking each student to read 6 hours during the month of April.
The art show is coming up and I wanted to see if we could draw and paint giraffes.
They were hard but turned out really cute.

Book Fair

We went to the Book Fair today to look at the books that are for sale.
We have papers in our backpacks today with more information. There are a lot of really good books to purchase
and it is FABULOUS that it is a buy one get one free sale.
This week I received this note, so...... I thought it would be in my best interest to open our classroom store to spend our pennies. Who can resist such a precious letter.
The kids have been so good with their math that I had some help running the store today. Here are my latest employers. They were fantastic help.
LH brought in all of these pop can tabs. This will help many people that need kidney dialysis. Thank you to all who have sent in some too.

Kente Cloth

Today Mrs. Padberg (our student teacher) taught us about the Kente cloth made by many people located in Ghana. Then she let us draw and paint one.
We used simple designs to create a little story that later in the day we wrote.
Soon we will be putting them together and displaying them in the hallway. Maybe you will see it at conferences which are next week. (Please return the bottom portion of the conference slip I sent home today to let me know if the conference time I set for you works).

Happy birthday lunch to our second grade students that were born in April.Wednesday our forth grade buddies came as we were finishing up our Easter scrapbook pages.
We took a few minutes to go through them together.
They make great memory books.

We learned how to add double digit numbers a different way today. Watch LW as she explains the process.
