Derek Munson

We had such a fun day today. We started the day with meeting author, Derek Munson, as he autographed our books.
Then we attended an Assembly where he read his story to us.

Parts of his story made us all put on a "funny face".

Then he invited us to help him make a pie.
Here he is helping HK get ready to roll out the pie crust.
While she did that, we got to make the blueberries, strawberries and many other good things out of play dough to add to the pie.
Then AB got to put whip cream on top.
The whole can!
After adding sprinkles and a cherry, this pie was ready.
Then we needed to make the pie for our imaginary enemy. Here DA is rolling out the crust with a bowling pin.
Wouldn't want to use a good rolling pin on a pie for our enemy.
Then we wanted to put worms in our pie.
and some ????
Next we added mustard and ketchup.
The mustard didn't come out fast enough, so BP took the top off.
Then she got lots of mustard in the pie. Yummy!
MM added in some ants, while AD added gooey eyeballs.
Here Mr. Munson is giving EM his grandma's false teeth to put in the pie.
Want some?
Almost finished. Now we just need to make it look good enough to eat.
TH adds not whip cream, but something that looks like it, shaving cream. Now to top it off. Not sprinkles this time, how about kitty litter?
Derek Munson presented a wonderful lesson to us about how to
be a good person. His message is: Be nice to people and they will be nice to you.
Before lunch we also got a special art lesson.
Paul (our artist in residence) helped us create some water color paintings.
We will have two more lessons with him soon.
EM painted a sunflower.
JS a horse.
SK a humming bird.
JS decided to paint a humming bird with flowers.
Paul went around and helped each of us make decisions on our art.
CA painted a humming bird too.
And BL painted a house.
